Chevron Applies to Build Large Resort on Avila Beach Bluff

Oil company Chevron has applied to build a large 232 unit resort on a 95 acre bluff that overlooks Avila Beach. The resort would include a spa, restaurant, retail space, pool, workforce housing and trails. The application process is in the beginning stages as the County Board of Supervisors and State Coastal Commission would need to approve the project, in addition to an Environmental Impact Report. The biggest concern of many local residents is access to Avila Beach, which can already be heavily impacted on warm days. The two-lane Avila Beach Drive, which is the only vehicle access to Avila Beach, would be very difficult to widen due to surrounding terrain. It will be interesting to see how this process plays out over the next few years. For more information click here.
